Imagine you did it all for nothing. All the hard work and sacrifice down the drain. All because you ignored it.

This week we’re veering off from the usual tips and tricks for succeeding in business, and taking a moment to bring awareness, be present and remind ourselves of the bigger picture.

If you’re looking around thinking you’ve stumbled through a wormhole into the 1980’s and are now suddenly surrounded by wannabe Tom Selleck’s from Magnum, PI, then you probably haven’t heard of Movember. Allow me to explain…

First off, no, it’s not a typo. “Movember” is a portmanteau (blend) of the diminutive word for moustache and the month November.

The movement began in an effort to raise awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer and mental health.

Is Movember Just For Men?

Even though the idea is to grow a moustache (or beard) in support of the movement, not all of us are able to do so. But that doesn’t mean anyone is left out.

Ladies, you’re encouraged to allow your inner lady-Chewy to live her best self in support of Movember. That’s right, pack away your razor and cancel the monthly wax session to support and encourage our men to take better care of themselves.

If you’re not quite that extreme but would still like to be a part of this endeavor, head on over to https://za.movember.com/donate where you can make a donation and support the cause.

How You Can Support Movember In Your Workplace

The sky really is the limit. Movember is an excellent opportunity to bring a sense of comradery and team spirit into the work place.

Here are four things you can do to show your support this Movember:

Host a fundraiser

Ultimately Movember is a cause that strives to help men live happier, healthier lives.  Money is raised for projects that range from creating awareness, sharing information regarding men’s health, establishing services that work for men and funding research.

Pose the challenge

Perhaps stir the pot a little bit by getting the competitive juices flowing and hosting a “Best Mo” competition for the gents in the business.

Run A Promotion

Nevermind Black Friday! Make use of this opportunity to spread the awareness in your local community by running a sale or promotion for the month of Movember. If you have products or services particularly geared for men, you cannot miss out on this opportunity!

Be Vulnerable

This may be a bit “out there”, but vulnerability can create a massive connection between you and your clients. If your company is up to it, perhaps get the team involves in sharing stories about how their lives have been affected by issues surrounding men’s health, or how Movember has impacted them.

Let’s Get Serious For A Minute

I know Movember is almost an out of place topic for a business/ entrepreneur blog, but it’s kinda the point.

What would it matter if we applied every trick in the book to growing our business, just to lose it all because we didn’t take a moment to take care of ourselves?

At the end of the day our health determines the quality of our life and all the money and success in the world wont bring back the people we lose to health issues that could be prevented.

So, take a moment this Movember. Whether you’re able to grow your mo or not. Book that appointment, go for that scan and take care of yourself first.
